First Blog Post: Best Computer Science Experiences

Best Out-of-Class experience:

I’d have to say that my best out of class computer-related experience is simply online gaming with my friends, on PC and other platforms. While it’s not really the first thing I think of whenever I think of Computer Science, its certainly not possible without the science behind it, literally speaking. I look forward to spending time online with friends, and it helps me stay social. One thing that I really like is how convenient it is; there’s no need to be in the same place as your friends, therefore there’s no need to worry about time limitations, gasoline, etc.

Best In-Class experience:

My favorite experience computer-related experience at App State has to be Data Structures with Dr. Raghuveer Mohan. Everything about the class was so well put together. For one, I find the concepts from the class fascinating; its basically a class about algorithms and efficiency. And that’s kind of why I find CS interesting anyway: its figuring how to solve problems, and solving problems using computers is power in the 21st century. Secondly, the layout of the class was excellent. A majority of the final grade comes from labs, which, unlike CS 2440, do not have a corresponding in-class lab section, which is nice since we can go at our own pace, and mandatory labs are tedious anyway to be honest. The rest of our grade comes from tests, which are very challenging, but push you to think in new ways and look at problems differently. So yeah, that’s some of why I really like Data Structures; I could probably fill up the entire blog with reasons why.
